More Union Forces Crossed River, Longstreet Recalled
More Union troops continued crossing the Rappahannock River at various fords; they met some slight opposition from Confederate forces. The Army of the Potomac, while some had concentrated near Chancellorsville, remained scattered.
General Robert E. Lee sent word to native Georgian James Longstreet to disengage from Suffolk and return to the Fredericksburg/Chancellorsville area; Longstreet would do so, but would not arrive back in time to take part in the battle at Chancellorsville.
