Grant’s Army Near Vicksburg Supplied

Ulysses S. Grant’s forces south of Vicksburg were supplied by Admiral David Porter’s fleet, the fleet suffered some heavy losses when vessels steamed by Confederate batteries, but they had proven the previous week that it could be done. No new supplies could now reach the Confederates in Vicksburg.
