Union Shipping Lines Re-Opened

At Suffolk, Virginia, a Union battery had driven a Confederate battery under the command of Georgian James Longstreet off a strategic position on April 15,; on this day the Union forces mounted an amphibious assault which drove the Confederates back to the point where shipping was re-opened to the Union lines.
