Stephens Speech and Editorial Comment Printed
The Daily Intelligencer of Atlanta printed the speech of Confederate Vice-President Alexander Stephens to the special called session of the Georgia Legislature - which had recently adjourned, and generated considerable controversy over the governor’s defiant attitude towards the Confederate government. The speech is too lengthy to reproduce in its entirety here, but below is its conclusion, followed by an editorial comment from the newspaper.
