New Officer at Andersonville Faced Impossible Task

A new commissary officer was appointed at Camp Sumter near Andersonville; he had the nearly impossible task of feeding eight thousand inmates and military personnel combined. Unfortunately, the number of prisoners would continue to rise, while the available rations and other supplies would continue to decrease, creating horrific conditions at the prison.
