Confederate Army of Mississippi Formed
The Central Army of Kentucky and the Army of Alabama and West Florida were merged into the Army of Mississippi. Three of the Corps commanders were Braxton Bragg (who would lead the Confederate forces at the Battle of Chickamauga in 1863), Leonidas Polk (who would also be at Chickamauga and would be killed shortly before the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain), and native Georgian William Hardee.
