General Assembly Funded Repairs to State House and Mansion

When Sherman’s army had come through Milledgeville, they had done considerable damage to some government buildings. On this day the Georgia General Assembly moved to fund their repair.

And be it further enacted, “That the sum of eleven thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary, be and the same is hereby appropriated to pay for repairs on the State House and Executive Mansion, made necessary by depredations on the same by the public enemy, and the Governor is authorized to draw his warrant on the Treasury for said amount.” Source: Journal of the Senate of the Extra Session of the General Assembly, of the State of Georgia, Convened by Proclamation of the Governor, at Macon, February 15th, 1865: Electronic Edition.
