Wirz Requested Shoes for Andersonville Prisoners

At Camp Sumter - Andersonville prison - Commander Henry Wirz wrote to a Confederate official that many of the paroled prisoners were performing valuable duties on the post, but had no shoes, and requested permission to purchase either shoes or the leather to make them, as many of the inmates were cobblers by trade.
