“What They are FIghting For” was Subjugation Editorial
The Southern Federal Union of Milledgeville published an editorial with excerpts from Northern newspapers arguing the war was being fought to save the South and the Union. But the Southern editors insisted “the subjugation of the South and the impoverishment of its people is the sole aim and purpose of the Lincoln government.”
The Southern Recorder, also of Milledgeville, joined in the condemnation of the Lincoln government.
