Soldier Finished Letter Begun Earlier
A Georgia soldier stationed in Tennessee finished the letter he had begun the previous day.
“…Duty prevented the finishing of my letter on yesterday. I feel just like I had got home after a long journey. … The weather is pleasant here, everything still, but no doubt, it is the same lull that always preceded the storm. Short rations, lb. flour, 1/4 pork, nothing else. I had to stay in Atlanta on Tuesday night after I left home and one day at Kingsville, S.C., one at Petersburg, Va. [and] one at Bristol, Tennessee, though I had no breakdowns on the railroad for the first time. …” Source: Ronald H. Moseley (ed.), The Stilwell Letters: A Georgian in Longstreet’s Corps.
