Rossoll, Harry


Atlanta artist/illustrator Harry Rossoll worked as an illustrator for the U.S. Forest Service from 1937-1971, and is best remembered for conceiving the idea and image of Smokey Bear in 1944 as part of a new forest fire prevention promotion. During the following decades, Rossoll also was responsible for over 1,000 Smokey Bear messages. He died in Atlanta in 1999.
