Captured Civil War Soldier Wrote Father that He was Well
A Georgia soldier who had been captured wrote home to his father to assure him he was well.
“…Knowing your anxiety to know my fate, I embrace this opportunity for the purpose of sending you a short note. I was captured in the action of yesterday and am doing well. … You need not suffer any uneasiness about me. I will write every opportunity. Give my love to all and reserve a goodly portion for yourself. As ever your affectionate son til death…”
