Letter to Mother Warned of Potential Battle
A Georgia Civil War soldier in Virginia wrote home to his mother, warning her that he might be going into battle soon.
“…Mamma if I go down to Yorktown I will be where there’s thousands of Yankeys and if I get into a row with them and they kill me, let it rest on your mind with honor to think that your youngest son died in defense of his country that we might still be a free people. There is many difficulties and trials to undergo here but I prefer it before subjugation. …”
