Marching Civil War Soldiers Left Sick Behind

A Georgia soldier marching from South Carolina to Virginia wrote to his wife of leaving sick men along the way.

“…I am well this morning. I hope these Lines will find you all well an doing well. Peter is well, George is mending, Charles Sirmons is well. we Left Dennis & Jim Allen & Hugh McCann in Charleston Hospital an several others. we left Charles McCann at Hospital sick in Roleigh N.C. an we left other scattered all along on the road from there to here. I fear that we will have a heep of sickness here the days is now warm an the nights is cold we have to sleep wraped up now. …”
