Whitefield Started School for Girls

George Whitfield, soon after his arrival, began to notice the needs of the children in the Georgia colony - and to act on it. On this day he noted in his diary the beginning of a school for girls:

“…Opened a School to Day for the Girls of Savannah, a Friend, whose Heart God was pleased to touch on Board the Ship, having at my request undertaken to teach them. The Work is for my Master, and therefore I doubt not of being supplied some Way or another with a sufficient Fund for the Support of it. …”
