Letter Expressed Distress at Revolution
“… I am greatly distressed about the bloody News we hear from the Northward [the battles of Lexington and Concord], and I am afraid there is now an End to all Reconciliation, unless the blessed God by some extraordinary Interposition should bring it about, which I most humbly pray he may do - I think from this Event may be dated the almost ruin of Great Britain and this very flourishing Continent… .”
