Brief George Washington Diary Enty on Georgia Trip
On the previous day, Pres. George Washington and his party had traveled about 15 miles from Savannah on the way to Augusta. He had spent the night at the house of a Mr. Spencer. Today, they would make better time, as noted in his diary:
“Monday, 16th. Breakfasted at Rusels, 15 miles from Spencer’s; dined at Garnets 19 further and lodged at Pierces 8 miles more, in all, 42 miles to day.”
