Civil War Soldier Returned from Furlough to Find Illness in Camp
A Georgia soldier who had recently been home on furlough wrote to his wife of returning to his company, and not surprisingly finding some illness there.
“…My Dear after a long and tiresome trip to got to my co. yesterday. … Charley was not very well but up an about. Riley Bailey was very sick with neumonia an was sent of to Hospital. Poll was in very good health. an George was just like he always is no better nor no worse so the boys say I did not see him my self. he was sent of again this morning before I got here to hospital an the doctors told him to stay when he got there. …”
