Alfred Iverson Speech Published
Macon’s Georgia Weekly Telegraph published the speech of Alfred Iverson, Jr. as he resigned his commission with the U.S. Army to fight for the Confederacy. Iverson would be promoted to brigadier general, take part in the Battles of Chancellorsville, Antietam, and Gettysburg, then later be active in the defense effort against Sherman’s army in Georgia.
