Running an Election Not Enjoyable
Apparently, running an election was no more enjoyable in the 19th century than it is today. John Girardeau Legare of Darien, Georgia recorded his experience doing so:
“…I acted as manager of an election today for offices for McIntosh County until 2 a.m. this morning and again from 8 until 11 a.m. I have no desire to repeat this experience.”
