Braves Allowed to Move to Atlanta
The National League announced that Milwaukee Braves would be allowed to move to Atlanta in 1966. The move would give the South a second major league baseball team. Two years earlier, Houston, Texas had been awarded the first franchise in the South - the Houston Colt 45s (subsequently renamed the Houston Astros). Later, teams in Florida would be added.
