Atlanta Braves Clinched Playoff Spot
The Atlanta Braves clinched a playoff spot when first baseman Freddie Freeman hit a walk-off two run homer to defeat the Miami Marlins 4-3. The win was espeically meaningful as Freeeman had made the last out in the previous season, finishing a disappointing end to a season in which the Braves lost a big lead in September to fall one game short of the playoffs on the final day. But that memory was erased on this night with Freeman’s home run. It was also the Braves’ 22nd consecutive win in games which pitcher Kris Medlen had started. Additionally, it meant third baseman and future Hall of Famer Chipper Jones - playing in his final season - would get to experience post-season play one final time.
