General Assembly Appropriated $100,000 for Defense
On November 26, Georgia Governor Joseph E. Brown had written a letter to the Georgia House of Representatives, explaining the dire need for further funding for Georgia’s defense. On this day the Georgia General Assembly responded by passing this Act:
Full Title: An Act to authorize the Governor to draw money from the Treasury for support of the State Troops. 28. SEC. I. The General Assembly of the State of Georgia do enact as follows: That the Governor of the State of Georgia be, and he is hereby authorized to draw from the Treasury the sum of one hundred thousand dollars, to be used in the support of the State troops now employed in the defence of the State, or such as may hereafter be employed: to be drawn in such sums, and at such times as he may think proper. Approval Date: Assented to November 30th, 1861.
