Editorial Acknowledged Fall of Atlanta, Remained Defiant
The Southern Recorder of Milledgeville printed an editorial, acknowledging the fall of Atlanta as a blow, but still remained defiant and confident the war could turn in the South’s favor. Ironically, they argued that Sherman should be made to feel he was fighting not just an army, but a people. It would be the people targeted in his next campaign, much as the citizens of Atlanta were discovering.
