Battle of Winchester Continued
The Battle of Winchester, Virginia continued. General Robert E. Lee wanted the Shenandoah Valley cleared of Union troops after the Battle of Brandy Station on June 9. Richard Ewell had confronted what Union troops remained in the valley and began pushing them back. He continued that on this day, to the point where the Union troops left their entrenchments after nightfall, in hopes of escaping the valley altogether.
