John Treutlen

John Treutlen

1733 -1782

Career: born the same year Georgia was founded, and grew up to become Georgia's first elected governor; one of the Salzburgers who settled at Ebenezer; became very active in the Revolutionary movemnt in Georgia; helped draft Georgia's first constitution - under which he was elected as Georgia's first governor; later elected as a representative in the state legislature. Treutlen County created and named in his honor in 1917.
