George Walton

George Walton

1749 or 1750 -1804

Career: very active in the Revolutionary movement in Georgia, culminating with him being one of Georgia's three signers of the Declaration of Independence; chosen four times as delegate to Continental Congress; after the Revolution, served Georgia as chief justice, commissioner to the Cherokee Indians, in the U.S. Senate, and as a trustee of the University of Georgia. Walton County created and named in his honor in 1818.
