Located at the intersection of Ga. 56 and Ga. 192 in Summertown, Ga.

SUMMERVILLE

Summertown originated as Summerville in the 1850's as a summer refuge from malaria by well-to-do families of Burke County. They built elaborate summer homes and established historic Summerville Academy, charter March 4, 1856. A post office was granted in 1876 with C. I. Hughes as postmaster. Present Summertown was incorporated in 1906.
