David Crenshaw Barrow

 

David Crenshaw Barrow was born in Oglethorpe County, Georgia in 1852. His family moved to Athens, Georgia, home of the University of Georgia, and Barrow grew up with a deep appreciation for the state and the college. He graduated from the University and soon began teaching there, ultimately rising through the ranks to become chancellor of the University of Georgia. a position he held for nineteen years. Barrow died in 1929, but while still serving as chancellor a county had been named in his honor in 1914.
