Georgia counties arranged into seven categories.

- Official sites are those maintained by or on behalf
of a county government.
- Unofficial sites have information about a county but
are maintained by private persons, businesses, or other organizations.
In some cases, unofficial sites contain information about the community
derived from the local chamber of commerce. However, if the chamber
is not responsible for the site, it is considered an unofficial site.
Unofficial county web sites are evaluated for inclusion on the basis
of multiple content about the city or county--particularly information
on local government organization, officials, and services; area history;
area map and description; local parks and historic sites; community organizations;
voting and other citizenship information; economic and natural resources;
etc. Sites may contain commercial material, and in fact may be operated
as a commercial enterprise. But, they should also contain non-commercial
information designed to serve area citizens.
- Local chamber of commerce sites have information about
a county (and often cities within that county and are maintained by
or on behalf of the chamber. Often, a chamber site will be jointly sponsored
by a local development authority or convention and tourism bureau.
- Local convention and tourism sites have information
about a city or county -- and usually its accompanying region maintained
by a local convention or tourism bureau separately from that of the
local chamber of commerce web site.
- Georgia GenWeb sites have a variety of historical,
genealogical, and other information about individual counties. They
are maintained by a network of private individuals.
- Georgia Department of Community Affairs sites provide
"County Snapshots" (brief descriptions and maps of Georgia counties)
and "County Profiles (various demographic and other statisticsl information
on counties).
- U.S. Census Bureau sites provide demographic and economic
profiles of Georgia counties.
